Topgolf Is Open on Broadway. What's It Like for Monona Locals, and What's Going Up Next Door?

October 15, 2026

From the Beltline near the Broadway exit, the tall netting and lit outfield targets are hard to miss. Topgolf Madison, Wisconsin's first Topgolf, opened on August 14, 2026, at 6600 Topgolf Way in Monona. The netting may be the most visible thing on West Broadway right now, but that won't last. In September, the developer behind Topgolf started building the largest project in Monona's history on the neighboring land. According to the Wisconsin State Journal, that project "will put buildings between the prominent Topgolf netting and the street."

That changes how to think about Topgolf. It is less a standalone attraction dropped beside the Beltline than the first finished piece of a new West Broadway, and much of what comes next is meant for people who live nearby.

The Opening Was Framed as a Start

At the ribbon cutting, Monona Mayor Nancy Moore said Topgolf had been looking for its first Wisconsin location "for quite some time." She called the venue "an important anchor for the continued redevelopment of Broadway Drive" and "a powerful catalyst for future growth and investment throughout the community."

"Anchor" is the right word for how the corridor is being built. The Wisconsin State Journal's coverage of the neighboring project ran under the headline "Largest development in Monona history rises beside Topgolf". It describes Galway Companies' plan for a mixed-use village on roughly 12.5 acres along West Broadway, north of the WPS Health Solutions campus. Topgolf came first. The rest is now under construction around it.

So the venue that opened in August is worth knowing well. It will be the oldest building on its part of the block for a while.

How Topgolf Madison Works When It's Cold Outside

The hitting bays are open to the air, a fair concern heading into October in Dane County. Topgolf's Madison venue page says the bays have cooling fans in summer and heat in winter, so they are meant for year-round use. Every bay has its own TV. WMTV's opening coverage described the bays as "outdoor, climate-controlled."

The bay count depends on the source. Topgolf's own page lists "70+ all-weather bays" on two floors. WMTV reported 72 hitting bays across three levels.

Current hours from the venue page, as of early October 2026:

Day Hours
Monday–Thursday 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Friday 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.
Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 a.m.
Sunday 9 a.m. to midnight

What a bay actually costs

You pay by the hour for the bay, not per player, and each bay holds up to six people. These were the online rates posted for Thursday, October 8, 2026, before the half-off weekday discount:

  • Open to noon: $34 per hour, $17 with half-off
  • Noon to 4 p.m.: $44 per hour, $22 with half-off
  • 4 p.m. to close: $60 per hour, $30 with half-off

The half-off price applies all day Monday through Thursday when you book online. With six people splitting a $30 evening bay, golf comes to $5 per person for the hour, before sales tax. A few fine-print details apply. Posted prices don't include sales tax, new players pay a one-time $6 account activation fee, and walk-in rates may be higher than the online price. For locals who can choose their night, booking a Tuesday online costs much less than walking in on a Saturday.

On weekends, the venue runs two other offers. "Sunday Funday" sets one hourly price per bay for the whole day. "Topgolf Nights" brings DJ playlists, giveaways and a lower hourly rate for late-night play on Fridays and Saturdays when you book ahead.

Football season, kids and food

The rest of the building also matters in a Wisconsin fall. WMTV reported a 22-foot video wall and more than 100 screens from 43 to 86 inches, plus game day suites and a regulation-sized field goal post in the outfield. The venue's "Game Day Meets Game Play" offer runs all season and includes a Field Goal Challenge, beer specials and games on the screens in your bay.

Families should know the age policy before they go. Anyone under 16 must be supervised by a guest 21 or older at all times, and anyone under 18 needs that supervision after 9 p.m. The venue also has a full-service bar and restaurant run by chefs, an arcade, private event space and outdoor yard games. Topgolf also sells lesson packages that combine two one-hour lessons with two free hours of game play.

Same Developer, Next Parcel: The Greenline

The neighboring project is the Greenline. Galway Companies announced in late September 2026 that construction had begun at 1709 W. Broadway, according to In Business Madison. The scale is new for Monona. The first phase alone is 357 apartments with about 16,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, and In Business Madison reports it is the largest project in both the company's history and the city's.

The first phase is only part of the plan. The State Journal reports that phase one replaces the Broadway Building at 1709 W. Broadway with two six-story buildings. A second phase would add two more. The finished project would have close to 700 apartments, about 25,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and a 1.5-acre city park. So the stretch next to Topgolf will roughly double between the first phase and the full build. Locals can watch it happen in stages.

One construction detail is easy to miss. Galway says about 32,500 tons of concrete and asphalt will be salvaged and reused on site. Because much of the material is staying put, the work may mean fewer hauling trucks on Broadway than a demolition this size usually brings, though the developer's statement doesn't make that claim directly.

The current schedule calls for completion in spring 2028. Until then, a trip to Topgolf will mean driving past an active construction site.

The Piece Built for Everyone Else

The detail that matters most to people who won't live in the Greenline or swing a club at Topgolf is the park. Galway describes a central park at the heart of the project as "a year-round public gathering place for farmers' markets, outdoor concerts and movie nights."

That gives Monona a new kind of public space on the Broadway side of the city. The State Journal sizes the city park at 1.5 acres in the full plan. If the timeline holds, the first season of markets and movie nights there would come after spring 2028. No event schedule has been announced, and it would be too early for one.

Put the pieces in order and the corridor's direction is clear. A venue that draws visitors from across the Madison area opened first. Next comes housing, ground-floor commercial space and a public park, all sitting between that venue and the street. When the Greenline is done, the netting that is now the most visible thing on West Broadway will sit behind a new streetfront.

Broadway Beyond the Netting

The city is planning past this one site. In October 2025, the Monona council took up an agreement with Vandewalle & Associates for comprehensive planning, with optional corridor planning along both Monona Drive and Broadway. Adding public-engagement elements to the proposed scope raised its cost by $9,670. Corridor planning that includes public engagement would cover the rest of Broadway, beyond the changes already underway near Topgolf.

Smaller changes are happening farther east too. In August 2025, Monona's Community Development Authority approved construction of a one-story First Choice Dental office on the vacant site of the former Joe's Fire Station Bar at 900 E. Broadway. That project is much smaller than the Greenline, but it shows the same direction: empty or older lots along Broadway are getting new uses, one approval at a time.

For now, Topgolf Madison is the finished piece you can actually visit. A Monday through Thursday bay booked online costs half the posted rate, heated bays are built for winter play, and construction on the Greenline began next door in September.
